German research centre elects patient advocate

A COPD patient advocate has been elected to the steering committee of BREATH, one of the faculties at the German Centre for Lung Research in Hannover (DZL).

BREATH, the “Biomedical Research in Endstage and Obstructive Lung Diseases Hannover", elected Michael Wilken from the German patient organisation Patientenliga Atemwegserkrankungen.

He will now be representing people with COPD on the BREATH steering committee, which makes decisions on which research priorities will receive funding for research. This is an excellent example of how patients and patient views are increasingly sought by medical and research organisations.
